Bandai Namco put Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 in the freebie basket on Steam and you don't even have to hurry to pick it up as you have roughly two weeks to do so.
Pac-Man CE2 is not necessarily one of the best outings in the series but the game is easy on the eyes and still presents a challenge of figuring out each map and how to go past it.
While the original Championship Edition is regarded as the holy grail of modern Pac-Man and boasts 96 per cent positive reviews on Steam, Champion Edition 2 has scored only Mixed rating with 59 per cent positive reviews.
One of the reasons why the newer game didn't fare as well appears to be that the developers went full throttle with putting new things in and not paying enough attention to the traditional qualities that made Pac-Man games what they are.
For example, one of the innovations is the ability to bump into ghosts up to three times before it gets lethal in some cases, as opposed to the instant death that is staple of the series. Furthermore, many players expressed that they feel like there is only one way to play through a map successfully, which actively goes against split-second decision making and incentivises retracing the same steps over and over.
The general consensus is still that the game can be fun at times and as such, there is no reason to not add it for free to your Steam library.
Pac-Man Champion Edition 2 free to keep promotion is going to last until 10 May 2020, leaving you with roughly two weeks to pick the game up from the time of writing.
