Bandai Namco Entertainment have originally announced that Dark Souls Remastered will be released simultaneously on all available platforms on 25 May 2018 but plans have changed. Switch version is now scheduled for a summer release instead.
That said, Switch version is the only one that's getting a delayed release date. PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases are all still scheduled for 25 May 2018. While most of the game's versions will not be postponed, the Solaire of Astora amiibo will also be delayed in the same time frame as the Switch release.
Bandai Namco UK have apologised for the delay on their official twitter but assured the players that the extra time will improve their journey to Lordran. There is no indication on how exactly the extra time will improve the game and it feels like a PR version of saying "we didn't manage to meet the deadlines for polishing the game and final touches".
It honestly isn't the end of the world, as delays happen all the time in video game industry and players prefer a delayed but complete version of a game than a rushed out bug fiesta. Either way, Bandai Namco have opted to keep things hush hush for the moment and even the network test date will not be announced until further notice.
On the other hand it was that the delay is strictly due to development issues and console competition has nothing to do with it. These complications may have been caused by Dark Souls Remastered's ambitious goal of expanding the multiplayer to up to six players in a session.
On top of the improved multiplayer, the game will also feature an improved frame rate and resolution. Dark Souls Remastered will also come in pack with Artorias of the Abyss DLC and the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC will get 4K resolution support as well as 60 FPS functionality.
