Blizzard is pulling a move for Overwatch 2 that is bound to be praised from the gameplay perspective but messes with Orisa's lore.
Orisa's lore mentions several gadgets Efi installed in order to battle Doomfist. One of them is a hard-light shield and one is a graviton pulse, the same one currently used by her alt-fire. When the hero gets updated for Overwatch 2, neither of these lore-friendly abilities will be present as they are getting replaced by new ones.
On the other hand, pretty much every player in the game will be relieved that there is one less barrier to worry about and matches will actually be about dealing damage, instead of shooting shields all day long.
Overview of Orisa's overhaul for OW2:
- Augmented Fusion Driver (primary fire)
- High rate of fire, shoots large projectiles that get smaller the further they go
- No longer reloads, uses overheating mechanics instead
- Energy Javelin (alt-fire)
- Launches a javelin to stun, damage and knock back an enemy
- If the enemy collides with a wall, the effects are increased
- Launches a javelin to stun, damage and knock back an enemy
- Fortify
- Now also provides 125 temporary HP
- Slows Orisa down by 20 per cent
- Reduces heat generation from primary fire by 50 per cent
- Javelin Spin (replaces the shield)
- Spins the javelin to destroy projectiles
- Push enemies back
- Increases Orisa's forward movement speed
- Terra Surge (new ulti)
- Pulls enemies towards Orisa
- Gains effects of Fortify
- Charges up for a powerful explosion blast
- Prevents shooting from Fusion Driver
- Primary fire activates the explosion early instead
Overall, it looks like Orisa can still be used in defensive capacity but sitting behind infinite shields is no longer an option. As a trade-off, she is much more proficient in close quarters combat now while gaining initiation capabilities with javelin abilities as well as the new ulti.
