Overwatch's latest escort map - Junkertown got its very own map preview. The video detailed the map's origin story and the new arena. Junkertown will be available next week.
Jeff and the Overwatch team have released a new map preview of the latest escort map - Junkertown. The map represents Junkrat and Roadhog's home, from which they get kicked out for a number of unknown reasons. It adds up, and it's all Roadhog's fault.
Anyway, their blinged out boom trolley will make its way through the streets of this town so we might as well learn a thing or two about it. Junkertown is, among other things, dirty, chaotic, and beautiful. Three words: the best thing ever. It's the apocalypse, math was the first to go.
The video first tells us about the origins of Junkertown: it was built on top of the wreckage left over by the detonation of the Australian omnium. Here's some backstory: "The Outback omnium and its omnics were given the Australian omnium and its surrounding land after the Omnic Crisis in an attempt to make a long-term peace. Dissatisfied human residents created the Australian Liberation Front, which destroyed the omnium and unintentionally turned the Outback into an irradiated wasteland. Its remains were used to create Junkertown, and the Junkers continue to pilfer the omnium."
Junkertown is led by the Queen: a charismatic and skilled fighter who got her start in the Scrapyard - an arena used to stage gladiatorial fights. Think the Rock but you won't get a chance to smell what she's cooking. I hate myself. Long story longer, Junkrat and Roadhog felt the wrath of the Queen and were kicked out of town. Now, in order to go back in, they assemble their boom trolley and hatch .
The team got "the sound of Junkertown" from an abandoned town that was full of tetanus and flies. It was also very quiet. The map itself features a couple of areas: Roadhog's farm is where everything starts out. Later, as the payload moves through the city, you see tattoo shops, restaurants and everything else an irradiated town needs to grow into an irradiated metropolis. There's a bar that's in a sewer pipe. Jeff says that the bar "makes you ask a lot of questions". No, just one: why?
Junkertown will be available on 19 September.
