Overwatch 2 will stick heroes to the free battle pass track but it's still bad

Blizzard is working hard on ruining goodwill and their upcoming release ahead of time once again, with Overwatch 2 being the latest target.

Overwatch 2 has endured a lot of flak already due to the longtime fans rightfully attributing the lack of content in the original game to the resource allocation for the development of the "sequel".

That was not enough for Blizzard apparently and they decided to make even more players dislike the game by sticking heroes into the upcoming battle pass tracks.

Heroes were normally all unlocked from the get-go but they will now be unlocked through grinding the seasonal battle passes which makes absolutely no sense, other than trying to nickle and dime the players.

The fan base was initially upset due to the belief that the new heroes would be in the paid section of the battle pass but Blizzard recently confirmed that would not be the case and everyone will have the opportunity to unlock them.

Having them in the free track doesn't make the issue much better though - core mechanics of Overwatch just make this a horrendous idea, no matter how you look at it.

For example, one of the main strategies to beating the opposing team is counter-picking after getting killed since you can change heroes whenever you are in the spawn room. If that hero is not unlocked, the player is denied one of the staple mechanics of the game, ruining it in the process.

Additionally, there is currently no information on what happens when a season pass expires and how these heroes will be unlocked afterwards, which still leaves room for undesired monetisation that could be translated into pay to win.
