The new Xbox Home UI is somehow even more cluttered

Xbox is getting a new Home UI but it doesn't look much different than the existing one, which disappointed Xbox players who expected a bigger refresh.

Microsoft are kicking off tests for the new Xbox dashboard, which is set to arrive next year. The new Home UI design changes are minimal and overall, it doesn't differ much from the current one but there are a couple of key updates that Xbox insiders will be able to test in the coming weeks.

The key updates include changes to the design and layout with the goal to make it easier for players to find games and apps and navigate the interface. There's also the new "Jump back in" row, for quick access to the most recently played games.

On top of this, when you scroll down, you'll see curated categories and recommendations for your gaming preferences.

Xbox say they want to make sure this new design is the best it can be, so it will take some time before they start rolling it out slowly to all users. They also ask players to share their thoughts on the new UI, in order to help the engineers improve this important feature.

"With your input, we’re looking forward to launching this new, better Home experience in 2023. Please share your feedback and be patient as we add, remove, and change features to optimize the experience," they say in  the announcement.

The reaction on social media and gaming forums probably isn't what Xbox have hoped for given that Xbox players are disappointed with the new design, saying that Xbox somehow managed to make the home screen even more cluttered.

Many point out that fan-made designs like the one you can see above is something that would look much cooler on their TV.

Of course, this is only the first update to the home UI, so expect a lot more changes before the launch. Who knows, perhaps Xbox decide to get rid of all those ads on the screen, which would certainly open up a lot of space for those stunning wallpapers to shine.
