Nioh 3 Demo Update 1.02.01 improves Ki recovery effects, fixes Samurai and Ninja skills, enhances shrine restocking, and resolves multiple crashes and control issues on PS5 and Steam.

Team Ninja has today published Nioh 3 Demo Ver. 1.02.01 which includes some balancing tweaks and fixes that addresses various pain points while playing the game in demo form.

Patch highlights include Ki recovery tweaks, skillshot consistency, shrine randomness and improved input detection on PC. Nioh 3 launched in early-access demo form this past November and players have been enjoying a sizeable chunk of its content for the better part of two months now.

Even though Nioh 3′s combat was fairly well tuned in its current iteration, there were some consistency issues present that impacted Samurai as well as Ninja styles of play. These tweaks should improve the consistency seen in the final game for those who import their save forward.

Important Balance Changes

Primary target for changes in Ver. 1.02.01 were stamina management and resource economy while in combat, which is one of the foundations of Nioh’s gameplay.

  • Ki Recovery Speed will now have its effect amplified
  • Increased effectiveness of Ki Recovery Speed (Unscathed)
  • Auto-refills consumable items purchased at the storehouse while praying at shrines
  • Does not apply to projectiles or Elixirs

These changes aim to reduce the stamina/resource drain of prolonged fights and reward players who successfully avoid taking damage.

Gameplay and Skill Tweaks

A large number of fixes targeted skills, style changing and bugs that players were able to exploit:

  • Samurai Skill: Running Water had been restored and fixed
  • Fixed instances of Style Shift and Burst Break activating unintentionally
  • Fixed players being able to cancel out of Style Shift by using Ninjutsu or jumping
  • Fixed inability to use Grapple while unarmed in Ninja Style
  • Fixed loss of Max Ninjutsu Stock bonus after using Style Shift
  • Fixed instances of reaching into unreachable areas
  • Fixed enemy inflicted status ailments disappearing too quickly in multiplayer sessions

These fixes should help alleviate frustrating bugs and make fights feel more intentional.

PC Fixes

Steam users will also notice several fixes:

  • Fixed instances of the game crashing when changing monitors
  • Fixed issues with movement while locked onto enemies with a keyboard
  • Fixed issues with control re-binding
  • Fixed error players encountered when exiting the game
  • Fixed issues with inputting attacks while using ranged weapons
  • General crash fixes and various other stability changes.
