Amazon Game Studios have today announced a partnership with Embracer Group to develop and publish a new Lord of the Rings MMORPG for PC and consoles.
Amazon Games have officially announced that they are working on a new Lord of the Rings MMORPG. The game is being developed by Amazon Games Orange County, known for their popular open-world MMO New World .
The game is currently in the early stages of production so it's going to be a while before we get to see it and even longer before we get to play it. It's coming to both PC and consoles and that's pretty much everything we know at the moment.
Though, Amazon did say that more details, including the release date, will be shared at a later date, which might be a tiny hint that the reveal is coming sooner than we might anticipate.

"The upcoming game will be an open-world MMO adventure in a persistent world set in Middle-earth, featuring the beloved stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings literary trilogy. The game is in early stages of production, with Amazon Games Orange County—makers of the popular open-world MMO game New World—leading development. Amazon Games will publish the game globally for PC and consoles. Additional details, including launch timing, will be shared at a later date."
Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann said that this project has been a long aspiration for the team and that players can expect a fresh take on The Lord of the Rings. CEO of Freemode, a company that owns the Middle Earth Enterprise said that everyone involved with the project is taking great care to deliver an MMO which will "do justice to the expansive Middle-earth universe and delight players around the world."

Amazon Games seem quite determined to become one of the world's biggest MMO publishers. The studio already published New World and Smilegate's Lost Ark and also have partnerships in place for Bandai Namco's upcoming MMO Blue Protocol but also NCSoft's Throne and Liberty.
In addition to these MMOs Amazon are also publishing Crystal Dynamics' next Tomb Raider game.
