NetherRealm Studios, the dev team behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice games are reportedly working on a Marvel fighting game for the next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Since releasing Mortal Kombat 11 back in 2019, NetherRealm Studios have been pretty quiet about their in-development projects. We basically do not know whether the studio are working on a brand new Mortal Kombat game, which does not seem likely, or another Injustice title.

The latest rumours suggest that NetherRealm's next project is neither of these two mentioned games. Instead, the team is developing a Marvel fighting game. The rumour comes from a notable leaker and industry insider Daniel Richtman, who shared the details via his Patreon.

Richtman states that NetherRealm are developing a Marvel fighting game for next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. He does not reveal much in the post but states that the game is already in production.

At the moment, we do not know how far in developing the project is. If the game is still far away we doubt the studio will show it anytime soon but on the other hand, if the game is far in development, we may see something at the upcoming E3 show.

Some may say that this rumour does not seem likely at all since NetherRealm are basically a Warner Bros. studio but knows, perhaps the two parties have struck a deal. It certainly would not be the most surprising thing you ever heard.
