Capcom seem to have struck gold with Monster Hunter World, which is now officially the company's fastest selling title with 6 million copies shipped. The game managed to hit 5 million only three days after it launched on 26 January 2018, and with the PC launch later this year, Capcom are living the dream.

The game has rapidly climbed the charts and now sits at the helm of PSN and Xbox Live paid charts. In the process, it beat the likes of PUBG, which is no small feat considering the latter’s stellar popularity. We’re still talking console-only numbers here, so you can imagine that the numbers will go through the roof once it launches for PC later this year.

As for beating its in-house competition, you’d do well to remember that Capcom are not just some studio - this is the company that brought Resident Evil and Street Fighter franchises, to name but a few. However, Monster Hunter World doesn't seem to care and has wiped the "competitors" off the board in record time.

Now, Monster Hunter has been quite a lucrative franchise for Capcom, with the series having sold upwards of 45 million globally. Unfortunately, while the series garnered critical acclaim in Western markets, the high learning curve and several other factors meant that sales didn't really follow. Until now, that is.

The learning curve has been adjusted to cater to beginners and veterans alike, which surely contributed to the game’s early success. Capcom have also made sure that the game is not pay-to-win, preferring to reward players for completing quests, rather than reward them for shelling out the cash, which is most certainly a welcome concept.

All in all, it looks like Capcom have got a new golden goose and if the early days are anything to go by - 2018 will be really big for the company.
