Infinity Ward's upcoming shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support mouse and keyboard on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One it's been officially confirmed by the developer. Also, the crossplay matchmaking will be based on peripherals.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare hype train is in full speed since the official reveal of the game's multiplayer modes. One of the biggest features that the developer Infinity Ward showcased during the reveal was crossplay support on all platforms - PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
While this is, of course, a welcomed feature that will bridge the Call of Duty community even closer, many think that PC players have an unfair advantage with mouse and keyboard which is a superior option when it comes to online, competitive shooters.
However, to make sure that all players have equal options and chances in Modern Warfare multiplayer, Infinity Ward have implemented mouse and keyboard support on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
According to the devs, Modern Warfare will support various peripherals so if you prefer mouse and keyboard on your console, you will be able to use it without any issues. "We’re also supporting different peripherals, so if you want to plug a keyboard [and mouse] into your PS4, you can," Design Director Joe Cecot said.
Furthermore, crossplay matchmaking will be based on the peripheral. This means that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users who play on mouse and keyboard will play against PC players who use the same peripherals. The same goes for PC players who prefer controllers - they will play against console users with controllers.
Once you choose your prefered peripheral, you won't be able to change your choice mid-match. This way, Infinity Ward want to make it sure that players don't cheat their way into matches where they would have an advantage over others.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is hitting the shelves on 25 October 2019.
