Microsoft looking to close Activision Blizzard acquisition on Monday despite FTC appeal

Activision Blizzard will leave Stock Exchange on Monday, July 14, 2023, which suggest that Microsoft are planning to close the acquisition on the same day.

Microsoft's acquisition of publisher Activision Blizzard is now closer to being completed than ever before. Earlier this week the court officially sided with Microsoft, denying the motion for a preliminary injunction, which means the acquisition can go ahead in the United States.

However, since then the FTC appealed the decision but it looks like Microsoft won't wait any longer and are ready to close the deal on Monday, July 14, 2023. It's come to light today that Activision Blizzard plan to leave the Stock Exchange on July 14, which is a clear indication that the deal will be closed on the same day.

Since Microsoft will own Activision Blizzard, the publisher will no longer be present at the stock exchange, meaning that its stock cannot be sold or bought anymore.

Obviously, Microsoft will still have to work with UK regulator CMA to be allowed to close the deal in the UK but the biggest hurdle, which was the FTC, has been crossed. Microsoft and CMA are expected to negotiate a deal that would ease the regulator's cloud concerns, which was the reason the deal was blocked in the UK.

All in all, it does look like this whole saga is coming to an end pretty soon, which should be music to Xbox fans' ears who could be getting a big batch of Activision Blizzard games on Game Pass very soon.

Once Microsoft close the deal, there is a chance that we see some big franchises make a return. Personally, we'd love to see more of Prototype and Hexen but there are a lot more shelved video game IPs that could be revived.

It's exciting times for both Xbox and other gamers as most Activision Blizzard games will probably continue to be multiplatform.
