Starfield will be an AMD sponsored title on the PC platform, it's been announced today by the developer Bethesda and AMD. In the official video announcement, it's been confirmed that Starfield will launch with AMD FSR 2 upscaling technology on both PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
AMD say they have worked closely with Bethesda to optimise Starfield for Ryzen 7000 processors and Radeon 7000 graphics cards. "These optimisations both accelerate performance and enhance the quality of gameplay using highly multithreaded code that both Xbox and PC players will get to take advantage of," said AMD's Jack Huynh.
Starfield director Todd Howard said Bethesda made various new tools for their engine to make Starfield play and look great and that they've decided to team up with AMD to optimise the game and make it even prettier. Howard added that AMD developers are working directly with Bethesda on FSR 2 which "looks incredible".
Sadly, there is no mention of any other special features like ray-tracing so it's safe to assume that Starfield won't support this popular tech on launch. There is a chance that ray tracing arrives after the game launches, but don't get your hopes up just yet as we would probably hear about it in this video.
This will certainly be a huge bummer for Nvidia graphics card owners who were hoping that Starfield would feature Nvidia RTX tech like path tracing, DLSS 3, DLAA and more.
Starfield is officially launching on September 6, 2023, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
