Survival is one of the game modes fans constantly kept asking Massive Entertainment to bring back in The Division 2 but it appears this is not on the developers' list of priorities or maybe not even on the to-do list at all.
The Division featured many different game modes, out of which Survival always stood out, be it for positive or negative impressions. Those who liked the hardcore survival challenge with fewer bullet sponges absolutely loved the mode while those who preferred a more casual experience barely ever touched it.
Fast forward to the days of The Division 2, Survival is often requested by the first of the two aforementioned groups. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment usually gave out vague answers to such questions. It wasn't until a recent developer stream that outright confirmed that the team is not working on or has any plans for Survival in The Division 2.
Even if Massive Entertainment change their tune in the future, the mode will a long time away from the time of writing as something like that cannot be just put together overnight.
For those not familiar with the mode, Survival was basically a battle royale that had players in a heavy snowstorm with extremely low temperatures in New York City. Players had to keep their body temperature, hunger, thirst and virus infection in check while looting gear and materials from around the city - be it from NPC enemies, hostile players or scattered containers.
The goal was to complete a few objectives, leading up to a helicopter extraction. Overall, the experience was one of the most meticulously crafted battle royales than unfortunately never saw the attention it deserved. Now it looks like it will not get any in The Division 2 either.
