Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is blocked from 132 countries on Steam. Why? It apparently requires a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play. Recent updates on SteamDB revealed region locks tied to the PSN requirement, renewing frustration over Sony’s stance on PSN on PC.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is set for a global launch, but must-take multiplayer component will need players to login with a PlayStation Network account. PSN does not officially operate in certain regions, so players in those countries will not be able to buy the game on Steam, hence why it is blocked nearly everywhere.
Sony infamously tried to force players to link a PSN account to their Helldivers 2 PC copy last year. Players, especially from regions where the official PlayStation Network is not available, took issue with Sony’s decision. Sony eventually U-turned and now offers players the ability to link their account to PSN optionally if they wish, rewarding players with in-game cosmetics.
God of War Ragnarök, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered are among recent PlayStation PC games that offer optional PSN linking instead of mandatory.
Sony is seemingly continuing this tactic with games that are multiplayer-focused. All recent PlayStation PC titles listed above are primarily single-player experiences where you can simply bypass PSN should you choose to not link an account.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls multiplayer is integral to the game and ties into PSN, so PlayStation Network not being available in certain countries means players from those nations will not be able to access the title when it launches.
We’ll have to wait and see if Sony decides to change their minds about the region lock ahead of launch, but for now Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls can’t be accessed by players in 132 countries on Steam.
