A few hours ago, on the official Marvel Rivals YouTube channel, the game’s creative director GuangGuang revealed several major features coming in update 4.5, which is set to launch in early October. Alongside detailing what players can expect in this upcoming patch, GuangGuang also shared insights into the broader development roadmap and the team’s future plans for the game.
Of course, the highlight—and what players can look forward to very soon in Marvel Rivals—is the long-awaited cross-progression feature. This addition, often cited as something that should have been available at launch, is one of the most anticipated updates the community has been waiting for.
According to GuangGuang, cross-progression will indeed be coming to Marvel Rivals, but not with the upcoming 4.5 update. Instead, the feature is planned for the 5.0 update, expected later this year—likely in November, or at the latest in December. However, a limited group of players will get early access to cross-progression in update 4.5, allowing the developers to properly test and fine-tune the system before its full release.
For those unfamiliar, cross-progression lets players carry their progress across different platforms. However, as GuangGuang explained, not everything will transfer—rank and leaderboard standings will remain tied to each individual system. For instance, if you’ve been playing on Steam and decide to switch to PlayStation, your overall progress will move with you, so you won’t have to start over. Still, your rank and leaderboard position will reset, requiring you to climb them separately on whichever platform you’re currently playing.
Considering Marvel Rivals is among the most popular live service titles today, the addition of cross-progression feels long overdue. Since its launch in December last year, the game has been available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In less than a year, it has already received numerous updates and steadily established itself as one of the standout live service experiences on the market.
