Marvel Rivals is changing up its main game mode with the Path to Doomsday event that launches today. New mode, themed around The Avengers movie, sees balanced PvP shift towards asymmetrical gameplay in a 1v6 battles.
Path to Doomsday takes the typical Marvel Rivals structure and turns it on its head. One player will pick Loki and effectively serve as a “boss” for six other players picking Avengers characters. Expect Loki to be over-powered relative to the other heroes.
He’ll likely have access to abilities that let him escape tight situations, survive longer, and disrupt his opponents. Players on the Avengers side will have to focus on teamwork and positioning if they hope to succeed.
Simply put, everything feels a bit more weighty. There’s less back-and-forth trading of abilities you see in even matches. Make one wrong move against Loki and he can run away to eliminate you. As Loki, you have to dominate all six of your opponents at once.
New Loki Skin and Event Details
Players will also unlock a new Loki skin inspired by the character’s appearance in The Avengers movie. It should fit right in with the new mode’s theme. Mark your calendars for April 30, 2026 (UTC) as the start of the Path to Doomsday event.
It will be live until further notice, but we expect it to release in phases inspired by other Marvel narratives throughout the year. This may be the biggest departure from Rivals’ normal formula, but it has the potential to be one of the best limited-time modes we’ve seen.
