URF is one of the most iconic and anticipated game modes for League of Legends. This classic League of Legends game mode brings a new twist from traditional Riot Games' Summoner's Rift gameplay into super-fast action, completely disregarding cooldowns, mana costs, or balance.
The mode is chaotic and addictive, playing just right for players wanting to enjoy League of Legends in a light-hearted-fast environment. Massive cooldown reductions means that URF has an ultimate 80% CDR on champions, meaning abilities can be spammed throughout.
There is no additional mana or energy cost for using all of the abilities, which means with URF, players can cast spells constantly, almost with no cooldown at all. This creates extremely intense battles and rather unpredictable outcomes.
URF 2025 key features
Increased Speeds and Power
All champions receive a bonus to their movement speed of +60 and increased attack speeds, which makes for extremely fast fights. For melee champions, it's 1.5x of attack speed, for ranged champions-2x. What this creates is a very kinetic and ruthless URF mode.
Gold and Item Changes
Gold is much easier to come by in URF. Players gain passive gold from the death of minions, even if they didn't last-hit the minion. Turret plating yield double gold, and items can be bought notably faster, creating rapid power spikes.
Map Mechanics and Champion Cannon
The map itself is adjusted to keep up with the frenetic pace of URF. Near the base, there should be Champion Cannon, which champions can use to launch across the map-greatly speeding up rotations and ganks. This is another layer of fun and also unpredictability.
Balanced for Chaos
Riot Games often makes some very particular changes to different champions and items in URF with an express purpose of keeping this mode-while chaotic-fun. Champions either receive buffs or damage modifiers while others are disabled temporarily if they become too OP in the URF.
ARURF
All random, ultra rapid fire is the way that the ARURF variant goes, adding even more randomness in the mix. Just as with ARAM, players are again assigned random champions, and this often makes for hilarious or unexpected matchups.
Fan-favourite champions in URF game mode
Due to the mechanics of URF, some champions are more radiant. Champions like Kayle, Maokai, and Janna end up taking all the accusations of being overpowered.
When scaling, Kayle becomes unstoppable as the-game-advances, and in skirmishes, Maoka'i is quite a menace because of his durability and crowd control.
On the other hand, champions that have high burst damage or strong poke-like Lux and Ziggs-, are super dangerous in URF since their abilities are almost always up.
Community reactions to the League's most popular mode
The League of Legends platform has always engaged in a hot debate about URF mode. While many players really enjoy the sheer fun of non-stop spellcasting, many feel this mode is unbalanced because of the dominance by certain champion types.
Players have argued blues about whether or not tanks are stronger than the mages where recent metas have favored the tank champions. There have even been discussions to go back to a "Draft URF" mode featuring bans and more strategic champion selection.
