Experimental sounds like the name of the game for League of Legends Patch 26.9, and Arena is among the biggest recipients of newfound wrinkles this patch. New systems are hitting the mode, alongside some quality-of-life pacing changes and an all-new Arena map to boot.
With all of these changes, Arena feels wilder than ever and certainly less constricted. Players can expect their Arena meta to turn on its head with plenty of new Augments being added to the pool.
A new Augment tier system is being introduced that levels augments up, allowing for long-term scaling and more options during matches. Older Augments are being reworked and tuned down to help minimize overlap and expand the variety of builds players can take.
Speaking of variety, players will also have more time to make decisions about their augments and item builds between rounds. This should help slow down the hyper-paced feeling some players experienced when having to make quick decisions. The new Fame Track system, as well as revamped Guests of Honor, are another layer of progression players can dive into between rounds.
All of this newfound Augment power can be leveraged on Arena’s new map, Petricite Grove. This map will enter Arena’s map rotation and features a wild, interactive area near Demacia.
Players can now pick up mining bombs and move them around to deal extra damage to enemies. Ancestral Woods and Koipond will also receive some quality-of-life tweaks and variants like new Power Flowers and some smaller unique quirks.
ARAM changes
Outside of Arena, ARAM gets a slight numerical change as Hubris is receiving nerfs to her attack damage and ability haste. ARAM: Mayhem on the other hand gets a number of changes to shake up its meta.
Buffs are headed to Bard and Ornn, allowing them to scale better and have their kits feel more impactful. Health Relics are also getting buffed, offering high damage area-based healing and mana restoration for allies.
A number of augments will be seeing buffs and nerfs to help balance out Mayhem. Riot also tuned down a number of bugs that were affecting players’ attack speed, invisibility not working with certain items, and more visual clarity bugs.
