Riot reveals Season 2 2026 plans for League of Legends, including Vayne’s story, Arena rework, new runes, items, and gameplay updates.

League of Legends will have a busy Season 2 come 2026, with Riot’s newest developer update diving deep into changes for gameplay, cosmetics, and more fundamental systems.

Expect a lot to change from Vayne-centric story patches to a full rework of Arena. Season 2 will take players to the borderlands of Demacia as Riot positions Vayne front and center this season. In addition to strengthening her inclusion with gameplay buffs, Riot hopes to continue Vayne’s story with motion comics that detail her background as a demon hunter.

Riot is also changing up how Battle Passes work. Non-Prestige skins will be able to be bought outright, and Prestige skins are returning with Shaco and LeBlanc confirmed for Season 2, while Veigar will debut in Season 3.

Riot is making smaller, less-invasive changes to gameplay. Role quests are being updated to make roaming less punitive, specifically for mid and top lane roles. That said, players will receive greater rewards for teamfighting as well. Riot is doubling down on rewarding players for building off-meta as well.

Rather than building specific items for your role, players are encouraged to play more hybrid styles like AP champions in the jungle. Some older runes are returning for Season 2.

Both Deathfire Touch and Stormraider’s Surge will return, along with new items and likely some old ones retiring to improve the overall meta. All of these play into Riot’s goal of defining champions by their weaknesses rather than making every champion perfectly viable in every situation.

Arena is getting a large overhaul this season, swapping out normal matches for event-based ones that rotate regularly. Players will experience changing formats that play Arena differently, such as 3v3v3 formats or faster-paced games.

A new map, extra augments, and improvements to existing systems like Augment Levels are also coming to Arena this season. Finally, Riot is introducing some simple yet impactful quality-of-life changes.

Players will be able to enable WASD as a control option for Ranked games, as well as having champion-specific keybind sets. There’s even a new system being tested that allows players to vote to end a game after experiencing trolls and harmful disruptions.

On the more social front, Riot is introducing Discord integration, which is being deployed to select regions as we speak.Overall, League of Legends Season 2 in 2026 is looking to be a smaller season focused on building up for the latter half of the year.
