Key Points from the Article

  • Feature only available in non-ranked Classic queues and calculates damage from champion's base attack plus select passive effects and support item executes

League of Legends introducing Last Hit Assistance feature that provides visual indicator on minion health bars when they can be killed with one basic attack

Riot Games is introducing a new Last Hit Assistance feature to League of Legends, giving players clearer visual cues when minions are ready to be killed.

One of League of Legends‘ most fundamental skills will soon be getting a little help: last hitting. Riot Games is introducing a new quality-of-life feature called Last Hit Assistance that will make it easier to know when minions are about to die.

The goal of the system, which will roll out soon, is to make farming feel less opaque and frustrating. For newer players or players returning from a break, laning and farming can often be a hard experience with things like enemy movements and understanding the thresholds of damage being difficult to see.

The system won’t change the combat experience, instead just making it easier to understand. It will provide a simple visual cue that a minion can die with a single basic attack.

How last hit assistance works

Minions will have a visual indicator on their health bar, when they are low enough to die with your next auto attack, in game modes where this feature is supported.

Key points:

  • Only applies in non-ranked Classic queues
  • Works on non-super minions
  • The indicator updates in real time
  • No attacks are automated and no damage values are altered

What damage is accounted for

The vast majority of the calculation is done with a champions base basic attack damage, plus some additional effects are factored in where it made sense.

Effects accounted for:

  • Ashe’s Frost Shot passive (but not Ranger’s Focus)
  • Kayle’s Starfire Spellblade passive (not the active)
  • Passive item effects such as Helping Hand and Icathian Bite
  • Learned basic or ultimate abilities, once unlocked

Support item interactions

Support players aren't left out of the new system though. If a support item has execute charges available, the damage of those executes is factored into the calculation.

This includes items like:

  • World Atlas
  • Runic Compass

 Known limitations and exceptions

Riot has been transparent about a few edge cases they can’t quite account for just yet:

  • Minion damage mitigation and resistances are not calculated
  • Disguised champions (Neeko with Inherent Glamour, etc.) will not have the indicator
  • Zeri currently has a known issue in which on-hit effects are included (due to Burst Fire)

Each of these issues will be monitored throughout prolonged PBE testing, with further refinements as necessary.

How to enable last hit assistance

Players can toggle this feature on or off at any time through the settings menu:

  • Interface
  • Health and Resource Bars
  • "Show Last Hit Assist"

Brand new accounts will have this option enabled by default, in an effort to teach the core fundamentals of laning as soon as possible.
