Summoner’s Rift is about to be shaken up in a big way in the LoL 2026 season, and the changes have a lot to do with turrets. Instead of being static objectives that usually only serve to stall the game out until an objective spawns, turrets have been reworked to reward smart, consistent pressure from both sides of the map.
The reasoning behind this is pretty straightforward. Riot wants to move the game away from constant objective brawls and incentivize players to play the map. Split-pushing, coordinated sieges, and well-timed lane pressure should all feel better now, particularly during the mid game.
Here’s a breakdown of all confirmed turret changes coming to League of Legends in 2026 and what to expect once you’re in-game.
Crystalline Overgrowth (new turret mechanic)
Turrets now interact with a completely new system known as Crystalline Overgrowth. At 90 seconds, turrets start to gain stacks of Overgrowth. As you attack a turret with allied minions in proximity, these stacks are used up in order to deal bonus true damage straight to the structure.
Some important notes:
- Bonus damage scales over time
- Maximum bonus damage is capped at 500
- The cap is reached at 300 seconds
Turret plating changes
Plating duration is being increased, while gold value slightly decreased.
- Turret plating will not be removed at 14:00.
- Gold per plate has been reduced from 125 to 120
This change is part of an overall change to the timing of plating, where Riot is evening out the distribution of tower gold, to be more evenly distributed throughout the game instead of being so reward-heavy in the early laning phase.
Outer turret mid-game decay
Outer turrets now become weaker during a specific mid-game window.
From 11:00 to 15:00, outer turrets will:
- Lose 10 gold per minute
- Lose 15 armour and magic resistance per minute
Inner turret updates
Inner turrets are finally being brought in line with outer towers.
- Inner turrets now have turret plates
Inhibitor turret changes
The same philosophy applies even deeper into the base.
- Inhibitor turrets now also have turret plates
All of these turret changes add up to a significant message to the current meta of League of Legends from Riot and its vision of the game in 2026.
Map awareness, wave manipulation, and split-pushing are meant to be more impactful now than ever, with multiple avenues to victory that aren't just forcing the enemy team into repeated fights around dragons and Baron.
