New World Interactive have officially announced the console release of their realistic shooter Insurgency: Sandstorm. The game is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in early 2020.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is probably one of the most underrated shooters you can play on the PC platform right now. If you're into tactical combat and realism, then you should consider it but be aware that it takes a lot of time to master it.
The game also has a healthy player base and it's available exclusively on PC but that is about the change very soon. According to the official announcement from Insurgency: Sandstorm developer New World Interactive, the game is heading to both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in Spring 2020 if everything goes as planned.
New World Interactive’s Head of Production, Derek Czerkaski wrote a lengthy post on Reddit, detailing what exactly can players expect from the console version of Insurgency: Sandstorm. To ensure that the port is of the highest possible quality, New World Interactive teamed up with Black Tower Studios to help them out during the development. Given that the studio did not have a lot of pre-existing experience internally when it comes to console porting and optimisation, the help from the Japanese development studio will certainly come in handy.
"This will allow the Insurgency studio to offset some of the rigors of production, while also ensuring new content will continue to receive development time. And it seems production for consoles served as the biggest concern for New World, when considering the ports," Czerkaski noted.
Players who purchase the game at release will get extra content and a "console-exclusive map" that will arrive to PC two weeks later. The console port also means that some of the content that the developers planned to release soon has been pushed back to a later date. However, New World Interactive say that there is a lot to look forward to in terms of content but unfortunately, they won't talk about it just yet.
