Insurgency: Sandstorm is the highly anticipated sequel to a more plainly titled tactical shooter from 2014, simply named Insurgency. New World Interactive are now showcasing what they can squeeze out of Unreal Engine 4. Sorta.

New World Interactive have decided to show more content from Insurgency: Sandstorm via new screenshots today. They are showcasing new maps, weapons and features in a gallery that honestly looks too good to be true. You can find the gallery below.

The original Insurgency was critically acclaimed and well received by players due to its high focus on realistic combat. The graphics were decent but going for Unreal 4 should be a definitive upgrade when compared to the original's reliance on the Source engine. Still, in the age of bullshot, we can't really trust any footage prior to getting our hands on a demo at least.

New World Interactive was prompted to start work on Sandstorm after seeing the prequel's sales performance. This may or may not be a good thing. Anyone who played Insurgency is definitely itching for more of that intense action, preferably with updated graphics and new mechanics. We're getting that so that's the good part.

We're also getting screenshots and trailers that keep giving me flashbacks for The Division and Rainbow Six Siege, before the downgrades. With the projected revenue being what it is, namely huge, odds are high that we will have a rushed release on our hands. It also means the gameplay will look nothing like the screenshots and videos would have us believe.

Insurgency: Sandstorm will feature ballistic calculations to maximise the tactical shooter aspect of immersion. Bullet drop and muzzle velocity will be present in the game, and just like in the original - magazines do not interchange bullets with each other. If you drop a mag with 15 bullets in it, it's 15 bullets lost. You might still want to do something like that though, because it will make the reload faster in hot situations.

These features were present in the original game but new ones include drivable vehicles, fire support, character customization, expanded weapon customization and competitive matchmaking. Insurgency: Sandstorm will be available later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
