New World and Focus Home Interactive have released the Frontline update for Insurgency: Sandstorm, bringing a new map with it, called Hillside. On top of that, we will get a new game mode and a new weapon to sweeten the deal.
Insurgency: Sandstorm - Frontline added a new map called Hillside which is not entirely new in concept since this is a reimagining of Sinjar from the first game. It brings visuals that players are probably not used to since it's snow-covered as opposed to all the sand-covered maps from earlier.
Hillside features high elevation for defenders which should serve designated marksmen well but there is enough cover for the attackers not to make them sitting ducks.
Both sides will get winter-like cosmetics that complement the snow-covered map. Then again, given the colour schemes, the new looks can serve well as camouflage.
As for the supported game modes, you can look forward to both Versus and Co-op ones in the winter wonderland. Versus will feature:
- Push Security
- Push Insurgents
- Firefight West
- Firefight East
- Team Deathmatch
Co-op will have:
- Checkpoint Security
- Checkpoint Insurgents
- Hardcore Checkpoint Security
- Hardcore Checkpoint Insurgents
- Frenzy Checkpoint
If you are wondering what Frontline is on the Versus list above, you probably figured out it's a new mode by now. This mode is basically a tug-of-war that mostly functions as a two way Push mode.
Players will need to capture all the enemy objectives one by one and then destroy the opposing team's weapon cache in order to win while defending their own. There is one central objective that will kick things off once captured. Each capture will provide a team with respawn waves, on top of respawning the team that took it. All respawn waves will be removed for the team that gets pushed all the way to their weapons cache.

The new map and the mode are not all the buzz New World prepared for the players though - Insurgents will get access to the light machine gun assault rifle hybrid IMI Galil while the Security forces that will get Galil SAR, which is basically the same gun, just with a shorter barrel.
