Raven Software, now best known as the developer behind Call of Duty: Warzone, may have a new game in the works, that could be announced sometime in the near future, if it's still alive.
A very interesting bit of info was discovered by eagled eyed gamers on a LinkedIn profile of former Raven developer Michael Gummelt, who reveals that he worked on reviving a classic Raven Software IP before leaving the studio.
"Lead developer on a very small incubation team on two highly playable, well-developed prototypes as proof of concept for a revival of a classic Raven IP," it's written on Gummelt's profile. "As part of the Activision Press Start initiative, which ended soon after Warzone launched and was successful."
Notice that Gummelt says that the prototype he worked on was successful, which could suggest it's been greenlit by Activision for further development. Fans of Raven Software's games are speculating that this mysterious title can't be anything other than Hexen, a fantasy classic Doom-like shooter that was released was back in the 90's.
Hexen series has become somewhat of a cult classic over the last decade with fans hoping that someday, we might hear about this series returning with modern graphics, controls and other features found in 2024 games.
Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is a huge fan of the game and has recently possibly teased some news by wearing a Hexen t-shirt at Xbox Showcase 2023. However, he did say that he wasn't trying to hint at anything. His choice to wear the Hexen shirt was purely down to highlighting the rich portfolio of games that Microsoft now own after the purchase of Activision Blizzard.
I am really hopeful that Raven and Xbox do something with Hexen, be it a remake, a remaster or a full-fledged new game as I'm quite fond of the original titles that I used to play as a kid. It would also be very interesting to see how the dev team sees a modern Hexen game in terms of gameplay and mechanics.
