Classic fantasy first-person shooter Hexen is once again a hot topic among the gaming community after Microsoft officially acquired Activision Blizzard and all of their franchises including Hexen.
Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer previously stated that he is "all in" on revisiting older IP, namedropping Hexen and other Xbox, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard games.
So basically, if any of the Xbox studios want to make a new Hexen game, they will get a green light from the boss. Such news got us very excited so we started to think what exactly a next-gen Hexen could look like.
Ideally, it would be fast-paced and action-packed similar to Doom as the original was also inspired by Id's popular title. To visualise the game, we used Microsoft's Bing AI, which recently introduced DALL E 3 for image generation, and the results are quite spectacular.
We asked the AI to generate a specific screenshot of the game from a first-person perspective in swampy and castle areas that we've seen in the original game with various enemy types on the screen. Here are a couple of screenshots.
Quite incredible, right? We don't know about you but if we ever got a new Hexen game, this art style would be perfect. Fingers crossed.
Now, back to reality for a second. While Spencer is adamant that he and Microsoft will allow studios to revive older games, he also made it clear that no talks have been held regarding that. Simply put, there is no Hexen game in development, according to Spencer.
Hopefully, in the near future, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard will have some positive news to share regarding Hexen and their other dormant franchises.
