Today, we have several shots from the upcoming Mortal Kombat film which reveal a first look at the iconic characters like Sub Zero, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang and Jax.

For many gamers, the new Mortal Kombat is one of the most anticipated films of 2021 and today, we have a first look at some of the most iconic characters that will appear in Warner Bros' brand new project.

The shots, which have been shared by Entertainment Weekly , show Sub Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax and Cole Young, a wholly new character to the Mortal Kombat, who is played by actor and martial artist Lewis Tan (Wu Assassins, Into the Badlands).

We have to say that the characters look pretty good in these shots and the film certainly does not give off that low-budget feel. The director Simon McQuoid already revealed that the crew has big plans for the film with fatalities and the R-rating, so it's safe to assume we're not getting some half-baked action film.

The film, which is produced by Todd Gardner and Aquaman's James Wan, will start off with a crucial piece of lore from the original games: the blood feud between the clans of Hanzo and Bi-Han (Warrior's Joe Taslim).

The report in EW states that the 10-minute opening sequence kicks off in feudal Japan, long before these fighters wielded supernatural abilities as Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and it ends in "a pretty nasty hand-to-hand combat" between the two.

"There are some great camera moves to give it a bit of dynamism, that make it really enjoyable. We needed it to be really elemental and really brutal. It's not a shiny film… I wanted the dirt and the grime to come through," McQuoid said.

Additionally, the brutality carries over to the present, where we meet new but also known and iconic characters. You can find more details about that in the full report on the EW.
