Rockstar Games' official announcement of the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer release date has set a new record for the most liked and viewed gaming tweet (post) of all time.
At the time of writing this article, the now iconic post on social media X (formerly Twitter) was seen by 142.6 million users and liked by 1.4 million gamers worldwide. The post also has over 475k reposts and 51k replies.
It's by far the most popular post on X ever, dethroning the other most-liked gaming tweet, which is as you can probably guess, Rockstar's message to the community after the notorious hack, when the publisher confirmed for the first time ever that they are working on a new GTA game.
Obviously, none of this comes as a surprise as the hype for GTA 6 is through the roof and we didn't even get the first trailer yet. Reasons for such excitement are numerous, from the leak that revealed the two playable protagonists, the fictionalised version of Miami and the first look at shooting and other mechanics, to the fact that it's been over ten years since the last Grand Theft Auto game.
Add the fact that Grand Theft Auto is one of the most, if not the most popular video game series ever and you have such an unprecedented buzz and anticipation that will absolutely break the internet once that trailer drops in early December.
While there is still no official confirmation regarding GTA 6 release date, we expect to see the game sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.
Rockstar will hopefully provide more details on that with the first trailer and blog post in a couple of weeks.
GTA 6 is expected to launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
