Square Enix announced that another free update is coming for Final Fantasy XV later this month. The update will, among other things, focus on stabilizing the frame rate on the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Final Fantasy XV stands to receive a fresh free update on 27 April. The patch will bring along a number of features, but PlayStation 4 Pro users will probably benefit the most. The patch will include many additional upgrades, including a new image quality mode. This mode will allow for stable frame rate and "comfortable" play.

The "stable" frame rate might mean the PS 4 Pro players will be able to lock the frame rate after the patch is applied.

As far as subtitles and the menu screen sizes are concerned, they will be magnified after the update rolls out. Also, timed quests are making a comeback and they're bringing a ranking system along for the ride. There will be some extravagant new weapons available as rewards for completing the timed quests. Rarity of these rewards will probably hinge on your rank.

Update: After completing one of the timed quests in the game, you will receive a two-handed weapon named "Afrosword". It's special, not because it deals extra damage, but because it changes the background music, and it looks like a DJ-deck. When equipped, the Afrosword will play a new song by Afrojack instead of the usual background music.

Regalia customisation also received a new sticker.

Translated patch notes look like this:

  • New “Stable Mode” added to the PlayStation 4 Pro resolution options. With this mode, you can comfortably enjoy playing the game with a stable frame rate.
  • Subtitles, as well as some menu screen text sizes have been enlarged.
  • Timed Quests will start up again, and a new ranking feature has been added. You can get a wonderful weapon as an initial reward.
  • New car stickers added for Regalia customization.
  • New songs added to the music player.

So everything I wrote before, in the form of a list. Why not.

The patch will drop in Japan on 27 April. Still no word on the release date for the rest of us.

Final Fantasy XV launched in November 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One, and went on to ship more than 6 million copies. Even though Square Enix showed off a working tech demo for PC at the Game Developers Conference 2017, the game still hasn't been announced for the platform.
