Xbox had a pretty great showcase back in 2020 with major announcements like Avowed, Contraband and a new trailer for Rare's Everwild to name a few. However, since then, we haven't heard a word about these titles which some Xbox fans may find a tad disappointing.
It's safe to say that many expected some of these games to be out already but as we all know, developing large AAA games is a long and tough process and the early announcements certainly didn't help.
But three years later, we think it's time we finally see some of these big Xbox exclusives. With the Xbox Showcase just around the corner, we believe such a major event is the perfect opportunity for all these games to shine. And here are five of them that we think need to be there.
Avowed
Ever since Obsidian officially announced Avowed at the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox fans have been waiting to see more of this first-person AAA RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe. Avowed is rumoured to be shaping up nicely for a 2024 release date, and if that's true, we might see it at the showcase.
Everwild
Everwild is a weird one. Rare officially announced their new magical world back in 2019, followed by a new trailer at the 2020 showcase but since then, crickets. We did get some rumours that the game was rebooted and won't be coming before 2024-2025. Still, we'd love to see what Rare have in the bag and a nice gameplay trailer would definitely make us hopeful for Everwild once again.
Contraband
Contraband is the only Xbox exclusive on the list that isn't being developed by a first-party studio. It's a partnership with Mad Max devs Avalanche Studios but just like Everwild and Avwowed, we haven't seen the game since the 2020 show. Contraband is described as an open-world co-op smuggler's paradise action game, which certainly sounds exciting and we can't wait to see more, hopefully at the June 2023 event.
State of Decay 3
Guess what State of Decay 3 has in common with the abovementioned titles? Yep, we haven't seen it since the 2020 showcase. State of Decay 3 was at that point in early development so it makes sense we haven't seen it in a while but we're eager for some next-gen zombie goodness from Undead Labs so hopefully Xbox decide to show it to the world next month.
Fable
Wrapping up the list with probably one of the most anticipated Xbox exclusives. Fable is currently in development at Forza Horizon 5 studio Playground Games, who announced this open-world RPG at the showcase in 2020.
Given that this is a whole new territory for the team who only worked on racing games so far, it's obvious that we'll have to wait a bit longer to play Fable. Xbox could at least give us a glimpse of the game with an in-engine trailer before they eventually show gameplay next year.
