Xbox studio Ninja Theory have recently posted a job listing which reveals a couple of interesting details about their brand-new IP, which aims for "fully immersive and photorealistic environments".
As they are working hard on Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 , Xbox first-party studio Ninja Theory are also busy with a couple of other projects including the experimental horror game Project Mara and an innovative research and development project called Insight.
In addition to these announced projects, it seems that the Cambridge-based team are also working on their next IP in Unreal Engine 5. According to the job listing posted on Ninja Theory's official website just a couple of weeks ago, the studio are looking for a "senior plus environment artist" who would work with a small development team on this new franchise that will have "fully immersive and photorealistic environments".
Additionally, the job description "modern architectural environments with a mix of some organic exteriors with a heavy emphasis on realism and believability".
There are a couple of other interesting tidbits in the description, mentioning assets with an extremely high level of fidelity to "push the quality of next-generation game development" and how "attention to detail is paramount" for this project.
To us, this sounds like another horror title but it doesn't seem like it will be a big AAA title as the job listing specifically mentions a small development team. However, some would argue that even the team of 40 developers working on Hellblade 2 is extremely small by AAA standards.
Most AAA video games these days have a ton of outsourcing so the number of actual devs working on the game is much higher. This is probably true for Hellblade 2 and Ninja Theory's new IP, too.
Anyway, we doubt Ninja Theory will talk about their other projects anytime soon as the priority is almost certainly the development of hotly anticipated action adventure Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, which currently does not have a release date but was mentioned recently by Phil Spencer among other 2023 games.
There is always a chance that Ninja Theory surprise Xbox fans with a trailer or a tiny teaser but don't get your hopes up. We'd put our money on Hellblade 2 trailer appearing at the Xbox Games Showcase while other games will probably have to wait a little longer for a proper reveal.
