Last year in January, Xbox introduced Developer Direct, a new event format that mostly focuses on showcasing the games coming out in the next several months. 2023's Developer Direct featured titles like Forza Motorsport, Redfall and the iconic shadow drop of Tango Gameworks' rhythm action game called Hi-Fi Rush.
According to the latest rumours, we might be getting more of that very soon. Xbox insider eXtas1s reveals that according to his knowledge, Xbox are set to host the next Developer Direct event very soon and may have another surprise release like Hi-Fi Rush to announce at the show.
The insider claims that the game could be available to play right after the event or a couple of weeks later. Sadly, we do not know what this mysterious game could be but respected Xbox community member Klobrille recently predicted that Double Fine's unannounced title Kiln will be shadow-dropped at Developer Direct in January/February 2024.
Double Fine registered a trademark for Kiln a while back and believe it or not, we also have some actual gameplay (linked below) from an early prototype of the game that Double Fine shared six years ago.
The developers described Kiln as a team-based brawler focusing on creating unique player-sculpted characters from clay.
"Created during the match, extremely diverse character shapes and sizes are possible each exhibiting unique attributes and controls that leverage the possibilities in procedural animation. Collect resources to build larger and better-equipped Vessels, advance into enemy territory, and enjoy the destruction of artisan pottery with Kiln."
Once again, Kiln is yet to be properly unveiled by Double Fine but it does look like a smaller project that would be perfect for a shadow drop at Developer Direct. Kiln will probably launch on Xbox Game Pass too, just like every Xbox Game Studios title does.
As for platforms, it's probably coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Obviously, the information about Developer Direct 2024 and Kiln shadow drop are just rumours and speculation at this point so don't take anything as set in stone. Hopefully, we'll get an official confirmation from Xbox in the coming weeks.
