The Witcher fans got their first look at Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the highly anticipated The Witcher series produced by Netflix. A short teaser has been posted on Netflix's Twitter and it shows The White Wolf in its full glory.
We know that being a witcher is not an easy task. Fighting all kinds of monstrosities, drinking potions deadly to human beings and saving royal daughters from a flying raiding party of Elves are tasks which many would find painful. That's why Netflix cast Superman himself for the job. And today, we have our first sneak peek at Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming The Witcher series.
Netflix has put the news out through their official Twitter account, sharing a
of clean shaved Cavill wearing a white wig and taking a sip of what we presume is Swallow, the witcher health potion. The announcement comes shortly after the reveal of Freya Allen as Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, Anya Chalotra as sorceress Yennefer and Anna Shaffer as Triss.
Before he was contacted by the series producers, Cavill has talked about his love for both the game and the books. "I just replayed all the way through, I love the game, it's a really good game. I started reading the books, they're well worth the read," Cavill said adding his interest in playing Geralt "That would be an amazing role." Cavill said.
Press kit
Netflix's The Witcher is not based on the video game, the series described as "an epic tale of fate and family" will stay close to the books and will premier with 8 episodes. The plot will follow Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in the world where people often prove more wicked than the beasts.
Lauren S. Hissrich of The West Wing, Justice and Daredevil has been announced as the showrunner and as explained by her, the series will be shooting in Eastern Europe. Lauren also confirmed they're aiming for 2019 release and are doing their best to finish the show as soon as humanly possible.
