Earlier this week, we got some vague and ridiculous rumours that Sony are in talks with The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red over a potential acquisition, a deal that would certainly shock the gaming industry.
The rumour never had any solid legs as it was started by unreliable sources but PlayStation-centric accounts on Twitter quickly started to share it, hoping that there is some truth in these reports.
However, as expected, the rumour is false and such an acquisition will not be happening. This has been confirmed by CD Projekt themselves, who were pretty adamant that the company is not for sale in their latest conference call with investors.
When asked if there's any truth to these rumours, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kickinski was pretty clear in his response, which you can read below:
"So, I can repeat what we have been saying throughout the years – CD Projekt is not for sale. We want to remain independent. We have, I believe an excellent strategy," Kicinski said.
While some may argue that Insomniac Games and Bluepoint Studio have said the same thing before joining PlayStation Studios, the difference here is that CD Projekt Red are publicly owned company and would need to tell their investors if they are looking to sell.
So all in all, CD Projekt Red will remain independent so expect to play next The Witcher and Cyberpunk games across all platforms.
