The next Witcher game is now in full-scale production, CD Projekt Red confirmed in their earnings report this night. Joint CEO of CD Projekt Michał Nowakowski provided a small update on the game, confirming that the long-awaited RPG is in its most intensive phase of development yet, and that its progress is making the team quite pleased.
"I’m proud to confirm that several weeks ago the Polaris team wrapped up preproduction and moved on to full-scale production – the most intensive phase of development," Nowakowski said. "We are very pleased with our progress on this project, and I wish to thank the team for its dedication."
CD Projekt Red also revealed that more than 61 per cent of their workforce is now actively working on the next Witcher game, which tells you everything you need to know about the scope of this gargantuan project.
Unfortunately, there's still nothing on the potential release date but the fact that the game is now in full production means we could see it in the next two to three years, depending on how much work CD Projekt Red have on their hands.
Usually in AAA development where hundreds of developers work on full production, that phase tends to be one or two years with an extra year for polishing and post-production.
If that's how the development of the next Witcher game pans out, we could see it in 2027, but that's just speculation as nothing is officially announced just yet.
In terms of the story details, we don't know anything other than Geralt will be part of the game in some way. Whether he'll be an NPC or a playable character it remains to be seen.
We do know that this game will be the start of the next trilogy, that CD Projekt Red plan to deliver within a six-year period following the release of the first game.
