FromSoftware returns with a big new patch for Elden Ring Nightreign, sending the title further into its Lovecraftian-inspired survival roots. Patch 1.02 is a sizeable new update for Elden Ring Nightreign, dropping on July 31, 2025 and adding the highly-requested Duo Expeditions mode for two-player cooperative horror-fighting in Limveld.
Ever since its launch on May 30, 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign has operated as its own standalone survival roguelike apart from the original Elden Ring. However, with the addition of the Duo Expeditions feature, the Nightreign survival gameplay loops are becoming more apparent.
In addition to co-op, Patch 1.02 also features a refined quality-of-life change with a filter for gear/UI relics management, plus a tweak to the Everdark Sovereign challenge cycle to freshen things up.
What’s New in Nightreign Patch 1.02?
Here’s a breakdown of the key additions in this latest update:
Duo Expeditions Mode
- Join forces with a second player in fully integrated co-op gameplay
- Tackle Nightreign’s procedurally generated horrors as a team

UI and Gear Management Improvements
- New relic filtering options for smoother inventory management

Everdark Sovereign Cycle Overhaul
Key enemies now appear in upgraded forms, including:
- Nightlord Tricephalos
- Nightlord Augur
- Equilibrious Beast
- Fissure in the Fog
Expect new mechanics, more aggressive AI, and tougher survival conditions as well.

Nightreign Continues to Evolve
Elden Ring Nightreign is a roguelike-survival spin-off title from the original Elden Ring, featuring many of its core features and gameplay systems in a completely new co-op Dark Fantasy setting and approach.
Following its initial success, Patch 1.02 is now live as of July 31, 2025. While the quality-of-life and Everdark Sovereign change will certainly improve both Everdark runs and gear management across the board for anyone with multiple Tarnished, it’s the introduction of the Duo Expeditions mode that will be most exciting for players.
