Dolphin Barn Incorporated, the developers behind the indie title Domina, randomly attacked people wearing masks in real life and are now getting review bombed for it.
Domina was a story of indie success by all metrics thus far - it sold like hotcakes, both critics and players received it well but the devs apparently decided to make it worse for everyone for no apparent reason.
In patch notes for version 1.3.18 , the devs included a section that demanded people take their masks off and belittled those who wouldn't.
"TAKE OFF THE FCKN MASKS - Next time you're at the grocery store, try showing a woman your face. Be confident, unafraid of the LIES -- you might get a girlfriend. Women like confidence. Women don't like dudes who cover their faces in fear. What are you afraid of? Getting laid? Grow up."
The reaction to the issue was overwhelmingly negative, just like the reviews from Steam users in the time after the patch notes appeared. It appears that the devs took issue with people who don't like being told to increase risks to public health but it didn't stop them from doubling down on the mistake that caused the ruckus in the first place.
They did try to downplay the reason for the outrage as an overreaction to a mere patch note but telling people not to wear masks is far from an actual patch note.
At first glance, it might seem like the wild rant came out of nowhere but Dolphin Barn constantly drops supposedly edgy posts and it has happened in patch notes before .
