Crucible is getting a kind-of-new-but-not-really game mode in Destiny 2 as the game is looking to refresh PvP for the community.
Destiny 2 PvP has had its share of controversial changes and additions but the part that usually gets the praise i Control as it's plain chaotic fun that allows players to go for either objectives or kills, providing something for everyone. The rest of the game modes are usually kill-centric and now we are getting one that focuses on objectives for the most part.
Zone Control is mostly the same as the regular Control, with the main difference being that you no longer score points with kills. All the points are coming exclusively from the zones you have captured. In other words, it doesn't matter if you end the match with 50 kills if your team can't hold at least two zones for most of the match.
Once it arrives, Zone Control will stay for the rest of Season of the Haunted, except for the single week when the remaining Iron Banner will play out. As such, this shouldn't interfere with the regular Control either.
Capture times will be adjusted to be more severe if just one Guardian is on the zone. It would take them 22.5 seconds to capture it while having one friend there would cut it down to just 10 seconds. Having three or more Guardians present will take 7.5 seconds.
One point will be scored upon capturing a zone and then two for every 15 seconds the zone is controlled. Scoring 125 points wins the game. Mercy will kick in once the game detects that holding two zones for the rest of the match won't be enough to catch up.
Trials will feature Zone Control this week and offer twice the progress so it might be a good idea to check it out.
