Season 23 will bring a pile of weapon changes in Destiny 2 and one of them includes Thorn, the hand cannon whose damage over time was the bane of PvP in the original Destiny.
Technically, it was never a bad hand cannon in Destiny 2 but there just happened to be stronger choices around.
With the addition of the catalyst in Season 23, Bungie will make this the hand cannon with the longest effective range in Destiny 2.
Thorn catalyst will boost the following stats:
- Range +20
- Stability +10
- Additional range, handling and mobility when picking up Remnants or scoring kills
To top it all off, picking up a Remnant will also overflow the weapon's "magazine" which will be able to carry up to 40 rounds at a time.
Considering that the damage over time has no range falloff, it already extends the effective range of Thorn but with the catalyst, we are looking at a monstrosity that will possibly be able to compete with scout and pulse rifles while outranging everything else.
Granted, the on-demand heals and overshields introduced over the last few seasons will be highly useful in countering the DoT while in cover but there is no doubt Thorn will become meta in Season 23.
