Destiny 2 has never been anywhere close to perfectly balanced but most sandbox changes left enough room for fun gameplay which led to the game's longevity, among other things.
With Checkmate modifier, Bungie attempted to give more spotlight to primary weapons but the lack of special ammo's consistency, some outliers showed themselves in the primary ammo category.
It is for this reason that some weapon types received blanket nerfs while others got some buffs. However, TTK will remain the same on all weapons, with the nerfs only serving to enforce higher accuracy and decrease effective range.
Checkmate damage penalty increases
- Devil's Ruin laser beam - 10% to 15%
- Fighting Lion - 0% to 20%
- Bows - 0% to 10%
Checkmate damage penalty decreases
- Sidearms - 10% to 5%
- Submachine Guns - 5% to 0%
- Scout Rifles - 10% to 9%
Added bonus damage
- Auto Rifles - 0% to 2%
- Pulse Rifles - 0% to 5%
Reduced bonus damage
- Hand Cannons - 10% to 7%
Overall, some new weapon choices should become more viable with Checkmate on while deleting people with Devil's Ruin will take more effort.
