In spite of the reports that clearly show Denuvo's anti-tamper tech has been negatively impacting the end users' experience, the company's sales director Elmar Fischer clearly stated that Denuvo's goal is protecting initial sales.

Commenting on various cracking groups, many of whom are dead set on beating Denuvo's anti-tamper tech, Fischer said that pirates see it as a form of competition. "For them, it's really sport and they are idolised", he added.

Having grown from a company of 45 people to one that has well over 1,000 employees, it seems that security firm Irdeto's acquiring of Denuvo has been a dream come true for the company. Fischer stressed however that Denuvo still relies on their own tech, even though it's nice to have a patron with nearly infinite resources.

Initially thought to be uncrackable, Denuvo's anti-tamper tech eventually fell, courtesy of Voksi, a Bulgarian cracker who has since been arrested and is awaiting trial. With the myth of invincibility gone, every cracking group seems to have jumped aboard the crack-Denuvo train, ensuring that Lords of the Fallen's record of 272 days without a crack doesn't happen again.

"Correct, we did have a bit of a rough patch in autumn last year especially with some quick cracks", Fischer added. This is about the time when Irdeto came in, whose complementary tech is said to have strengthened Denuvo's own tech further.

In what's probably the most honest thing I've read today, Fischer said, "our goal, and it's still the goal, is to protect initial sales." Unfortunately, neither him nor Irdeto's director of piracy and cybercrime management Lucas Catranis had any numbers or any sort of concrete proof of Denuvo benefiting the industry. Apparently, it's more complicated than numbers, which somehow doesn't stop them from claiming they have "a huge impact".

Ultimately though, and this is my personal opinion here, it is difficult to fault Denuvo for providing a solution - it is the publishers and developers who go for it. That being said, a product that protects initial sales while who pay for it, should not be allowed in any industry.
