Kojima Productions shared details on the upcoming PC release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The announcement was accompanied by news of a free update releasing on PC and PS5. The update adds new graphical features, gameplay obstacles, and content.
Director Hideo Kojima recently mentioned the PC version would get improved ray tracing settings. Kojima Productions has now confirmed this next gen feature will be arriving. With launch set for March 19, both PC and PS5 players can expect a significant update on day one.
Ray Traced Reflections and Ambient Occlusion on PC
Death Stranding 2’s PC version will feature ray traced reflections and ray traced ambient occlusion. These graphical features will allow lighting to appear more realistic throughout Death Stranding 2.
Thanks to ray-traced reflections, lighting and reflections will look better across Death Stranding 2’s environments. These reflections will be used beyond bodies of water, such as for close-ups of characters standing in tar.
Ray-traced ambient occlusion will help accentuate shadows found in corners, crevices and around objects.
New “To The Wilder” Difficulty Mode
Also included with this update is a brand new difficulty mode named “To The Wilder.” This difficulty ramps up challenge by offering more punishing environments and deadly foes.
Key details about the new difficulty:
- Focuses on extreme survival and combat challenges
- Cannot be changed once selected
- No specific rewards tied to completion
New VR Training and Photo Mode Features
Players will also receive access to another VR practice area known as “Trapped in a Strange Realm.” Players can replay boss battles inside of it such as Neil.
Finishing trials will reward you with new costumes. Sam Porter Bridges himself receives some new bandanas.
Photo Mode will also see some additions like these new options players can take pictures of while playing. Players will also be able to encounter a new character called the Chiral Feline both in the private room and in-game for some light animal collecting.
