Versus Evil and Obsidian Entertainment have announced a sort of scavenger hunt for future Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire players. Paying attention to the game's various promotional items will reveal codes that will unlock in-game items.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is nearing its release and promotional material is starting to pop up around every corner. Aside from getting new opportunities to take a peek at the game, fans will also be treated to a digital scavenger hunt. This marketing move will allow players to find hidden codes in the game's promotional material that will be coming over the next weeks and subsequently use those codes to unlock items in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

These codes will be hidden in both online and printed promotional items for Deadfire. In order to participate in the scavenger hunt, players will need to sign up on  with their account. This account will also need to be connected to the player's Steam profile, after which the player can start looking for codes wherever they can find them.

Each uncovered code will need to be entered on the players' profiles. There will be up to 10 in-game rewards that can be unlocked via the scavenger hunt. Each item will require a different number of codes to be typed in and players can check their progress in the "Captian's Logbook" which is a fancy word for a part of the official site.

Codes can be found in official concept art, screenshots, GIFs and trailers. Each time a player reaches a new code milestone, a new item will be added to their Steam account in the form of DLC for the game. When Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire launches, players will simply need to start the game for the first time and the items will be automatically added to their inventory.
