Phoenix Labs have some awesome news times two, or if you're counting tomorrow's Dauntless: Reforged update, then times three. Yes, new studios and games.
"Today Phoenix Labs announced the establishment of two new studios in Montreal, Quebec and Los Angeles, California. These studios, along with new teams in its Vancouver and San Mateo locations, demonstrate Phoenix Labs’ vision for empowering and supporting teams as they embark on the journey of developing new games", they wrote.
Dauntless has, of course, been the driving force behind the team's expansion in 2020. The team brought in 50 reinforcements and with the new studios, it's expected they'll be 250-strong by the end of 2021.
All the extra manpower will be focused into new prototypes, although Phoenix Labs didn't give any hints. Then again, it's probably too early to call anything, so we'll have to be patient.
On top of it all, Dauntless: Reforged sweetens the news with new open-world gameplay systems, as well as a reimagining of progression and story. It's the biggest expansion yet, and one well worth the occasion.
Dauntless has been incredibly successful, with a growing community of 25 million players. Naturally, the team didn't forget to remind that it's one of the games that pioneers cross-play, which now extends to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S consoles.
"At Phoenix Labs, we believe people are the ends, not the means. We aspire to bring joy and delight to players for years to come by providing developers with a long-term home to create the world’s most compelling gaming experiences. We believe in empowering our people with high autonomy so they can make broad impacts to their games and the studio,” said Jesse Houston, CEO and co-founder, Phoenix Labs.
