Cyberpunk 2077 arrived in a pretty bad shape on release but CD Projekt Red released a pile of updates since that time that brought it to a manageable state but the game is still considered to be quite demanding.
When Phantom Liberty launches on September 26, 2023, the game will have an update that will allow it to use more of your computer's resources which has positive and negative sides.
One of the negatives is that your hardware, most notably the CPU, will run hotter than usual.
Performance drops in Cyberpunk 2077 can be blamed on several things and one of them is low CPU usage, which will be changed with the update. To that end, one of the developers involved issued a warning that CPUs with eight cores can expect 90 per cent or higher usage.
When running at 90 per cent or higher usage, a CPU becomes extremely hot, which means you need a good cooling system and perhaps even more importantly - a good case that allows a proper air flowthrough.
If the fans can push the hot air out of the case, chances are that your CPU will be just fine. Others are already jumping at the nearest stores to grab some water cooling but keep in mind that these systems are mostly used for high-end rigs. Otherwise, you are better off with air cooling.
In any case, you may want to be careful with your PC once the update drops, lest you lose a CPU over a case in which it can't "breathe".
