In a recent interview, CD Projekt Red discussed Cyberpunk 2077 and the in-game world, insisting that various levels of destructible environments were crucial for immersion.
Asked whether the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is any more reactive to bullets than regular RPGs, senior gameplay designer Pawel Kapala gave a response that bodes well for the game's immersion.
"We put a lot of emphasis on having destructible environments overall in our game. Players will experience things ranging from very simple, so for example, if you have a shootout in a bar, and you’re shooting the environment, you will see glasses exploding, or things like beer bottles disintegrating on bullet impact. We wanted to have that feeling that, basically, after you’re done with a shootout, the place where you had the shootout is destroyed", he told VG247.
Cyberpunk 2077 players will come across destructible glass as well as destructible cover, both of which can provide you with an advantage if you're the one doing the destroying.
We really liked what was on display in the last episode of Night City Wire, especially moments like at 20:15, which not only shows destructible environments - it's a good indicator of the sort of punch some Cyberpunk 2077 weapons pack.
"All of those things give you the feeling that the projectiles from your weapons actually carry power with them. And this also extends to stuff like, you will see bullet decals on most of the things, all of the things in the level. You will see different hit reactions. Like for example, if you hit a pipe with water in it, you will see the water sprouting from the place that you hit it. And this extends to nearly every object that we have in the game", he said.
CDPR explained that Cyberpunk 2077 has three main types of weapons , power weapons, which are souped-up versions of gunpowder weaponry, tech-weapons, which are most likely to pierce through an entire block, and smart weapons, which will let you shoot behind corners and do an overall cleaner job.
