Developer Remedy Entertainment announced that Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 will receive support for Sony’s upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
Remedy made the announcement after Sony recently unveiled an enhanced version of PSSR that will start rolling out to supported games starting in March 2026.
Remedy Confirms Enhanced PSSR Support
Remedy Entertainment took to social media to announce support for the enhanced version of PSSR in Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2. Although no specific release date for when players can expect the update was provided, players will be able to enjoy improved visuals with support enabled.
According to Remedy, the enhanced technology should deliver:
- Improved image stability
- Clearer motion during gameplay
- Higher visual fidelity
Control’s hub world known as The Oldest House and Alan Wake 2’s Bright Falls will certainly look a lot sharper with improved image quality on PS5 Pro consoles once support drops.
What the Upgraded PSSR Technology Does
Project Amethyst is a technology that was built collaboratively between Sony and AMD. Enhanced PSSR is based off of that same technology. The enhanced version of PSSR will allow for improved image reconstruction when enabled in supported games.
Additionally, players will see an overall increase to image clarity. PS5 players will also gain access to a new system setting titled “Enhance PSSR Image Quality”.
As the name suggests, when enabled, players will be able to take advantage of the enhanced upscaling technology when playing supported titles.
