In Overwatch 2, tanks are struggling to do their duties and so the developers are giving them some much needed tweaks to help them live up to their names.

In Overwatch 2, tanks are designed to absorb damage and lead their teams in battle, but they often face difficulties due to enemy focus and displacement abilities. The developers at Blizzard have taken note of feedback indicating that tanks either get eliminated too quickly or seem invincible.

To address these concerns, a series of midseason updates aim to balance tank durability and overall gameplay dynamics.

All Tank Updates in Overwatch 2

Key changes to the tank passive include:

  • A 25% reduction in headshot damage, helps tanks avoid being quickly burst down.
  • Knockback resistance increased from 30% to 50%, allowing tanks to maintain their front-line positions without being excessively moved by displacement skills.

Additional global gameplay adjustments that affect tanks include:

  • Reverting armour damage reduction to five damage per projectile with a maximum of 50%, means heroes with high rates of fire like Reaper and Tracer will need more effort to bring down armoured tanks like Reinhardt.
  • Modifying the health regeneration passive for all heroes from 20 HP per second to 10 HP plus 5% of their maximum health per second, which helps tanks recover faster, particularly those with higher health pools,.

These changes are designed to make tanks more resilient without being overly strong, encouraging more balanced gameplay. The developers anticipate that these updates will affect the meta as Season 10 progresses.

Individually, several tank heroes are receiving specific buffs:

  • Junker Queen's Commanding Shout will be usable even while channelling other abilities like Carnage or Rampage, with its cooldown reduced to 12 seconds, allowing her to engage more aggressively.
  • Wrecking Ball's Grappling Claw will deal more damage (from 50 to 60), Piledriver will have a longer movement lockout (from 0.5 to 0.75 seconds), and Minefield will do more explosion damage (from 130 to 165) with increased knockback (from 5 to 10 metres).

These changes, along with upcoming minor buffs for heroes like Junkrat, Echo, and Hanzo, aim to improve the gameplay experience for tank players and balance overall game dynamics. More information will be available with the midseason patch release on May 14.
