EA has revealed key changes coming to Battlefield 6 ahead of the beta, including improved map flow, new weapon options and overhauled class traits based on Labs playtest feedback.

EA has updated the Battlefield 6 beta roadmap with information on changes made in response to feedback received from the Labs playtest. A host of game-wide balancing changes will see improvements in flow and rhythm, making for a Battlefield 6 that is more satisfying to play according to the developers. Battlefield 6 closed beta begins on August 7, with an open beta on August 9.

In their update, the team revealed that a major adjustment coming to Battlefield 6 is the Open and Closed weapon system. In short, classes in Battlefield 6 will be able to take on nearly any weapon that the game offers. To encourage builds, players will still have class-specific bonuses for certain weapons. The sniping perk, for instance, has a longer duration for Recons vs Assault. Closed and Open Weapon playlists will be available in the beta, with full XP progression being supported.

Beyond the weaponry, EA has also responded to feedback on movement data when it comes to map flow. The team used heat maps of data from previous playtests to identify these moments where players were getting hung up, or the flow was getting “stuck”. Consequently, Battlefield 6 beta maps will feature a better sense of pacing, as well as dynamic corridors, and more coverage near objectives.

Class Reworks and Weapon Improvements

Tweaks to each of the core classes will also be arriving in the beta. The classes are, of course, Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. In the case of Assault, for example, the focus is now explicitly on front-line combat.

A new Assault trait called Commanding Presence will increase the speed of objective capturing for squadmates. While healing abilities are being dialed back, there are benefits like the Adrenaline Injector, which gives resistance to flashbangs, explosive effects, and fire.

One of the more drastic changes will be to Recon, as the class now has an entirely new playstyle to complement its established feel. Pathfinder, a longtime Recon path, has been replaced by Spec Ops.

The changes under Spec Ops include a focus on stealth with perks such as silent takes downs, faster transition to sprinting from prone combat, and instant detection when aiming at enemies. These changes are intended to make Recon a more impactful role in gathering intel and stealth playstyles.

Weapons have also received some tuning changes, particularly in how the time-to-kill and time-to-death is perceived. On the customization front, weapon attachments and enhancements will be more accessible based on player feedback.

The new UI also allows for easier visibility into class-specific loadouts and Signature Weapons.

Battlefield 6 Adjustments, Dominations Coming to Beta

EA has been iterating with these changes since the Labs beta opened to players, and they are making plenty of adjustments in a wide range of areas in the game. For example, another change to modes is coming with Domination, which has class-specific benefits.

Battlefield 6 has traditionally not featured revives in Domination, but it seems that is about to change. EA is taking the additional step to introduce ally revival to Domination as well.

Battlefield 6 is releasing on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Closed beta will begin August 7, while the open beta launches August 9. EA will also run a second open beta phase on August 14 to 17. So far, it does sound like EA is listening and making the necessary changes.
